MERCREDI
A classic Sarlat hillside.
Walking along Avenue de la Canéda on my way to Wednesday tutoring and naturally I pass a Sarlat maintenance truck.
Today I finally visited Lou Cocal, the local biscuiterie that I pass every time I go to la Canéda, which is at least three times a week. Lou Cocal means walnuts in Occitan, the regional language.
Over the months I have come upon a decent number of wandering dogs in la Canéda area. Normally, the French are very picky about fences, though this dog is very given free range.

MARDI
On my walk to École de la Canéda, I ended up behind this street sweeper for about a mile; we were moving at the same pace.
Thanks to Daylight Saving Time (for Europe it was just on Sunday), it was still light out when I walked back from gymnastics at around 8pm.

28 mars 2011 - street

LUNDI
When I left École Jules Ferry for lunch, there were workers painting new school zone signs on the street.
While home for lunch, shouting from the street below called me to look out the window. Two guys were arguing over a fender bender. I didn't see any damage, but I could hear one guy saying it would cost several hundred euros to repair it. There is a ten minute time elapse between the two photos. Eventually friends of the two guys came over. I saw some kicking. Passing cars were getting annoyed because they were standing in the middle of the street.
City workers laying a hose in the roundabout.

DIMANCHE
It might be a damp day, but it is still warm; I wear a tee shirt while I stroll about Sarlat.
I pass École Jules Ferry where voting for the cantonal candidates takes place.

26 mars 2011 - Sun and Sports

SAMEDI
The Saturday market was very lively today, thanks to the amazing weather and the dawn of the tourist season.
Returned to the salon du livre to get books for Benjamin and Jacob. Downstairs from the salon there was table set up selling pastries and beverages.
I sat on strip of grass behind the cathedral and enjoyed the sun while doing some writing. A group of Spanish students getting a tour of Sarlat.
Sarlat is small, but no matter how many times I walk through the medieval streets, there is always something that catches my eye.
Sarlat's men handball dominated Bergerac for most of the match and ended with 32-25 victory.
After the men's match, I popped over to the soccer field to watch Sarlat play St-Emilion until halftime. Then I went back to the gym and watch Sarlat women beat Bergerac by two points.

VENDREDI
Dirt and gravel for a construction project to extend the road.
Went to the salon du livre with a class from École Jules Ferry.
A sticker of the Sarlat Salamander in someone's window.
Walked to La Canéda to coach gymnastics, since I missed it on Tuesday. Burning pile looks like a volcano.
Parking lot at the Complexe Sportif de la Canéda.

24 mars 2011 - Salon du Livre Jeunesse

JEUDI
Leaving École Jules Ferry with Occitan first-second grade split class. We walk down through the town to the library as part of the Salon du Livre Jeunesse (Children's Book Fair).
At the library the class met children's author Régis Delpeuch. The students had questions for him. He read them part of one of his books. Then the class presented Monsieur Delpeuch with a book they wrote and illustrated as a class based off one of his stories. The book a written in Occitan.
École de la Canéda
I joined the CE1 (second grade) class on their field trip to the Salon du Livre Jeunesse.
The book fair has a detective theme; Sarladais students produced artwork to follow the theme.
Storytelling with fabric creations.
The story reading was cut short as we had to catch the bus back to school.
On my walk home I passed a semi stopped in the middle lane along D704 (avenue du Lot); it had two shredded tires, which was probably contributed to the heat of the asphalt.
