I showed up to teach a class at École Jules Ferry only to discover that only one of the six teachers was there. The rest were on strike and the teacher, to whose class I was to teach English, was among those on strike. Glad I was informed. So I took a walk through lovely Sarlat and brought a newspaper to learn more about the strike.
The title reads "Teachers on strike today." The strike is to protest the announcement of 16,000 teaching jobs that are said to be eliminated next school year and there is the anticipation for the rise in class size.
A huge pile of gravel sits outside the train station along with pilings, as new tracks are being laid.
It is after 7pm and I am walking back after doing grocery shopping at Leclerc. It is a beautiful evening and pleasant that it is still light out... spring is approaching.
