6 mai 2011 - Field Trip to Château des Milandes

VENDREDI
École de la Canéda's end of the year performance is themed after Josesphine Baker, who lived in Château des Milandes that is located eleven miles south of Sarlat. Josephine's former residence is now a museum that displays the entertainer's career and life she led in the castle with her husband and twelve adopted children.
Earlier in the week, the other classes at École de la Canéda visited Château des Milandes and today it was the CP (1st graders) and CE1 (2nd graders) turn to take the field trip. I was invited to help chaperon.
 On the bus.
Château de Castelnaud located along la Dordogne. Arrive at Château des Milandes.
Chateau des Milandes was built in 1489. Josephine Baker (1906-1975) was a dancer, singer, and became the first African American women to star in a major film. In 1937, she became a French national after marrying a French. Josephine rented the castle before purchasing it in 1947. She modernized the establishment by putting in running water, electricity, and a phone line.
Arranging the students to take a group photo.
Josephine Baker had an incredible collection of dresses and costumes.
On the grounds of the castle there was a collection of owls, hawks, and even a bald eagle.
Head back to the bus, cross over the Dordogne River, and go back to the school.
