After tutoring this afternoon, I was invited to join the French family to the nearby town of Les Eyzies, home of Pôle International de la Préhistoire, which is a resource center on prehistory.
Evidence of tourism.
One of the tourist slogans of the Périgord is pays de l'homme (home of man) that derives from the many prehistory sites in the area, for example the Abri de Cro-Magnon. It is a prehistoric site discovered in 1868 when beginning construction work for a road. The first Cro-Magnon skull was found at this site dating between 10,000 and 35,000 BC. Along with the skull, shells, animal teeth, and necklaces were found in the abri.
